Davenport (Mildred) is born in Boston.

Mildred Davenport attends the Perkins and Prince Schools, Girls High School, and Boston University, then teaches at Tuskegee University. Returning to Boston, she opens the Davenport School of Dance, performs on Broadway from 1930 to 1935, then opens the Silver Box Dance Studio in her home at 522 Columbus Avenue in 1940 [1938-BGL]). Davenport becomes the first African-American woman to perform with the Boston Pops, serves in the U.S. Army during World War II, and serve as an official with the Boston Branch NAACP and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. She dies in 1990.
